Peninsula Panthers gave their fans something to cheer about Friday night, as they doubled the Victoria Cougars 4-2.  The Panthers still trail two games to one in the South Island Final best of seven series.

The games first star got the fans on their feet with the Panthers first power play goal of the series at 7:51 of the first period, when he tapped home a cross crease pass from Nick Chalecki.  Kyle Wells added an assists on the play.  The Cougars silenced the large crowd just 40 seconds later on a power play, when Nathan Rogers scored on a rebound shot taken by the games third star Jacob Koistimem.   T.J. Liebl had the other assists.  Some fireworks started late in the period after Rogers took acceptation to an elbow dished out by Panthers Blake Huppert along the boards.  Rogers was tossed for fighting, and Huppert, and Simpson were sent to the penalty box for two minutes each.  The Cougars Mike Hammond scored on the four on three power play to go ahead 2-1.  The Cougars power play went 2 for 5 in the first period, the Panthers were 1 for 3. Panthers out shot the Cougars 13 to 11.

Panthers had to kill off a penalty to Carson Baillie to start the second period, but Baillie made up for that not long after getting out of the box.  Baillie helped set up the tying goal as he and Greg Simpson had the puck in close to Cougars starting goalie Max Pelzner when Bell spotted the lose puck in the scramble and smacked it past the crowd in front at 3:45.  There was no more scoring in the second as both Pelzner and the games second start Scott Ismond made some huge saves to send it to the third period tied at two.  Ismond stopped all seven shots fired his way, while Pelzner stopped ten of eleven.

Panthers Ross Pattison again brought the large crowd to their feet when he intercepted a pass in the high slot and fired a rocket over Pelzner's glove.  Things heated up near the end of the game again as Colin Frederickson and Roy Stevens got into it behind the Cougars net.  Then with Pelzner pulled for the extra attacker, Dan Bell broke up the play just inside the Panthers blue-line and raced down ice to seal the deal.  After Bell scored, Cougars Mike Iorio gave Bell a bump along the boards that drew a crowd.  Iorio was given a ten minute misconduct, and the game ended without anything further. Ismond along with the defensive play of the Panthers held the Cougars to just 6 shots in the third period to take their first win of the series.
