Comox Valley Glacier Kings vs Peninsula Panthers - January 29, 2010
With only nine games remaining in the regular season, teams are fighting for every point they can get to put them at the top of their Division. This game would prove to be no different. The Glacier Kings came into town looking to upset the Panthers and that is exactly what happened, although it took OT to do it.
The Panthers got on the board early, with an ES goal at 2:25 of the first by Tanner Carter (25) with just one assist awarded to Josh Bryan. This would prove to be the only goal the Panthers could get past the Glacier Kings netminder Cam Waddington (29), the first star of the game. He shut the door for the remainder of his time in net when he left the game with an injury with only 7 minutes remaining.
The next goal did not come until almost five minutes into the second when Glacier King Jeff Crisp (24) got one past Panther goaltender Brady Berisoff (31), with assists to Jack Kennelly (18) and Troy Rata (20) to tie the game. Less than two minutes later, the Glacier Kings took the lead with a goal by Stewart Lee (16), assisted by Kelin Hrycuik (10) and Matthew Grant (12).
The goal brought some frustration to the Panthers lineup and the game became chippy. Mike Scarborough (2) and Adam Michie were tossed from the game with just five minutes remaining in the second and penalties continued to be called, against both teams. The Panthers would go on to lose their second D-man of the game when Brian Cross (4) was assessed a Game Misconduct for a hit from behind.
There would be no more scoring through the rash of penalties, until the Panthers’ tied up the game with just over a minute remaining, when Carter potted is second of the game, with assists to Joe Densmore (18) and Bryan (6).
Cats were able to take the game to OT and get a much needed point, but things would happen again quickly again in the period, but not to the Panthers advantage. The final goal of the game came just over a minute in when Comox won it in OT with a goal by Kelin Hrycuik (10), assisted by Lee and Grant.
Final score – Panthers 2 – Comox 3 (OT)
